Myths and stories of the Chinese classic《山海经》“Shan Hai Jing,” brought to life in newly commissioned music by NEC composers and digital artwork by students from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

From creator Shalun Li: Growing up surrounded by the myths of the Shan Hai Jing, these ancient tales not only provided inspiration but also imparted invaluable moral and ethical lessons that have influenced my cultural identity.

I recognized the potential to bridge this gap and share the impact these ancient tales had on my own cultural identity. I commissioned 6 compositions from my composer friends, and collaborated with visual artists to create this immersive experience, aiming to provide an opportunity for American-Chinese families to explore traditional Chinese culture.
